The truck driver found the oil pressure gauge reading too low when he turned on his truck in the morning. He called us and reported the issue. The truck got towed and was brought to our shop. The truck had a Detroit DD15 diesel engine.
The most common issue with Detroit DD15 diesel engines is that the design contains o-rings on oil suction manifold that start becoming hard and cannot maintain proper seal. The oil suction manifold o-rings lose their seal and lose their suction strength, therefore they need to be replaced by dropping the oil pan and replacing all the o-rings on the oil suction manifold. We removed the oil pan and found out that the oil suction manifold was broken, the oil strainer was full of junk, and the oil rings were solid and hard. We did a complete oil change, replaced the oil suction manifold, installed new oil rings, and installed a new oil pan gasket.
We turned on the engine and checked the oil pressure which was normal. We also did a computer scan to make sure there are no other issues.
