Air brake system: A type of friction brake for vehicles in which compressed air pressing on a piston is used to apply the pressure to the brake pad or brake shoe needed to stop the vehicle. Air brakes are used in large heavy vehicles, particularly those having multiple trailers which must be linked into the brake system, such as trucks, buses, trailers, and semi-trailers. George Westinghouse first developed air brakes for use in railway service.

Air leaks are one of the most common state inspection failure items. A faulty air brake system can cause an accident on the road. More than 50% of all out-of-service cases are brake-related.

Small air leaks are difficult to detect in these systems. These leaks can quickly escalate into major issues, increasing operating costs. When an air brake leak occurs, for example, a vehicle loses adequate continuous air pressure. If the pressure drops too low, the brakes will set and lock. Due to downtime and unproductivity, a truck in need of repair can cost a company anywhere from $900 to $3,000 per day.

Under certain driving conditions, the air in brake systems can deplete more quickly. Air brakes, for example, are used less frequently on highways and more frequently in high-traffic or city driving. It is critical that air brake systems are fully pressurized in these situations. Companies may be held liable in the event of a traffic accident and lapses in part inspection and maintenance.

A truck came in for a state inspection. It was losing air pressure fast when stopping on brakes.  Our diesel mechanic found a defective air chamber on the rear axle. We also fixed several air leaks in the dash. We removed and replaced the valve for air brakes with a yellow knob. We changed two air fittings in-dash near the foot pedal.

We checked again for air leaks and all was good. We have DOT-certified inspectors for state inspections.

We keep a bay just for quick in and out small repairs like air leaks or light work, this truck came in at 10 a.m and left to work at noon. We try our best to keep up with our commitment to provide same-day service.

We work on all diesel engines and most American trucks like Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Volvo, Mack, International, Navistar, and many more. Our diesel mechanics can do everything from an oil change to an engine swap on all commercial trucks and heavy equipment. We work on all American diesel engines like CAT, Cummins, Maxxforce, Navistar, etc. We have also fixed heavy equipment like cranes and Asphalt Zippers that run on diesel engines.

Experience professionalism at its peak and workmanship at its best !!!
