What is the function of the 3rd axle?

When loaded, the third axle is used to distribute weight.

The additional axle and suspension allow for better loading on the frame and add stability.

When the truck is empty, the axle is tucked closer to the body of the truck, resulting in fewer rolling losses while the truck is moving.

This improves fuel efficiency because dump trucks typically run half of the time empty as they return for a refill from whatever aggregate it is.

Mr. Anthony Flowers came into our truck shop and purchased a 2014 KW Dump truck. The customer required the installation of a third axle and dual exhaust. The driver's side fuel tank had to be removed in order to fit the third axle. 

To accommodate the third axle, the hydraulic tank was relocated from the passenger side to the driver side. The passenger-side fuel tank was moved forward.
